Entry rules for Egypt depend on your passport nationality, travel document type, residence where relevant, origin or transit route, arrival point, intended stay length, and whether you will leave the South Sinai permission area. Check these before you decide your entry route
- Passport nationality and passport type, including ordinary, official, diplomatic, refugee, or other travel document status.
- Residence or visas held for another country if an official source says those can affect eligibility.
- Origin, transit, or land-border route, because Taba, Nuweiba, Jordan, Israel, Sudan, and airport arrivals can have different handling.
- Arrival point, especially whether you arrive at Cairo International Airport, Sharm El-Sheikh Airport, or a land or sea border.
- Planned stay length and whether your itinerary stays inside or leaves the South Sinai limited-permission area.
- Purpose of travel, because tourism, business, work, study, family visits, and official travel can require different documents.

The official Egypt e-Visa FAQ, the U.S. State Department, the UK FCDO, and the Egyptian Embassy in Washington currently align on a six-month passport-validity expectation for their stated audiences. The e-Visa FAQ and UK FCDO also reference at least one blank passport page. Confirm the rule for your own passport and travel document before booking non-refundable plans.
- Carry the passport or travel document you used for the visa or permission check.
- If using an e-Visa, the official portal tells travelers to download, print, and present the e-Visa at the port of entry.
- Keep your itinerary, accommodation name and address, and details about places you expect to visit, because the e-Visa FAQ lists itinerary and hotel details among arrival requirements.
- For consular visa applications through the Egyptian Embassy in Washington, the embassy lists round-trip ticket or itinerary evidence and accommodation reservation for its visa applicants.
- Keep offline copies of your passport identity page, visa or permission record, accommodation, insurance, airline booking, and emergency contacts separate from the originals.

Do not assume a universal answer. Your safe route may be e-Visa, consular visa, verified visa on arrival, or a limited South Sinai permission only if your trip fits the official conditions.
- Start with the Egypt visa guide and the official Egypt e-Visa portal.
- Use the IATA Travel Centre or your airline for boarding-document checks tied to nationality, routing, and transit.
- Use your nearest Egyptian embassy or consulate if you hold a non-standard travel document, have an unclear nationality/residence case, need work or study permission, or have been told to obtain pre-approval.
Children and family
Treat child and dual-national cases as source-specific
Family-document rules are especially sensitive because they can depend on nationality, custody, dual citizenship, and departure route. The U.S. State Department currently says a U.S. citizen leaving Egypt with a dual-national U.S.-Egyptian child may need proof of consent from the non-traveling Egyptian parent at the airport. The Egyptian Embassy in Washington also notes a specific Uzbekistan passport-holder case for travelers age 21 and under.
- Check child-travel and consent documents with the traveler government's Egypt advice and the responsible Egyptian consulate.
- If a child has Egyptian nationality or dual nationality, verify exit rules before travel, not only entry rules.
- Carry birth, custody, consent, and name-change documents only when relevant to your family case, and keep copies separate.
